After pushing around a dolly load of raw chickens in the dark back room of a supermarket, I decide to get a gum ball from a new custom gum ball machine. It prints a word on the gum ball under a random cartoon image. I'm hoping for one that depicts a chipmunk on a mound of grass. I'm having trouble pushing the buttons for the letters: W, E, L, T, because part of the panel is broken off and worn down from use. Each letter on the panel is written in script and has a phrase that presumably should start with that letter. But "L'Amour Fou" isn't under "L", nor "A", nor "F". An old black woman coworker takes me to the back of the store to get the spirit level of a camera tripod to help me use the gum ball machine. I eventually get my gum balls, but they are old malted milk balls mixed with small green Chiclets with no printing on them at all. |
